Last week at CTIA, Sierra Wireless revealed a new level of intelligence for the AirLink® line: the ALEOS Application Framework (AAF). USAT's engineer, David Lamb, is featured on the marketing material used for this launch stating, "ALEOS AF enables us to run custom programs in devices to perform M2M tasks that were previously cost-prohibitive. USAT Authorized To Install Sierra Wireless GX400 & GX440 WiFi Kits
USAT Corp. is now authorized by Sierra Wireless to install the WiFi upgrade kits into GX400 and GX440 gateways, effectively upgrading the functionality of these devices to be wireless LAN access points back-hauled over the public cellular networks. Clients who have previously purchased Sierra Wireless GX400s and GX440s without WiFi now have the option to work with USAT to upgrade them, at USAT's location, using the newly released WiFi upgrade kits available to USAT for this purpose. In addition, Sierra Wireless has published a list of distinct part numbers for GX400s and GX440s already configured with WiFi that are now shipping. Please see this list below:

WiFi Kit For GX400/GX440 Released
Sierra Wireless has released the Upgrade Kit for the GX400 & GX440 Series of intelligent gateways. The WiFi Kit utilizes the expansion slot standard in all GX models and increases the capability of the device by providing 802.11b/g/n Access Point (hotspot) or Client Mode functionality. The Wi-Fi X-Card is a standards-based wireless local-area network (WLAN) card, enabling communication with any other WLAN equipped device, including laptops, smartphones, printers, fingerprint readers and much more. The Wi-Fi X-Card can also operate in client mode giving you the ability to connect to your own Access Point and give the flexibility of using your Wi-Fi network instead of the cellular network when available. All Wi-Fi parameter settings (such as security encryption) are available through point-and-click menu-driven web pages.

Critical Infrastructure Hacking on the Rise
A recent article in The New York Times says that according to the Department of Homeland Security, cyber attacks on factory, critical infrastructure and database networks during the five-month period between October and February rose nearly 800% from the same time period a year ago;
During the five-month period between October and February, there were 86 reported attacks on computer systems in the United States that control critical infrastructure, factories and databases, according to the Department of Homeland Security, compared with 11 over the same period a year ago.
The increase has prompted a new interest in cybersecurity on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers are being prodded by the Obama administration to advance legislation that could require new standards at facilities where a breach could cause significant casualties or economic damage.
